The thought of giving up that worn-in leather roll of different timepieces or that cabinet of winders all spinning in sync for just a single, lone, day-in, day-out wristwatch is a polarizing thing, but something that watch folks tend to talk about quite a bit. What appears to be slight corrosion on the surface of the hands would further confirm that this piece is truly untouched, giving prospective bidders additional peace of mind. These will be produced in slightly larger numbers than the very few surviving vintage Air Command watches – Blancpain is offering this watch as a 500 piece limited edition. In the early 1950s, America was keen to tout its newfound military position with a recruitment tool that made a sonic boom-sized statement. On June 1, 1953 the Thunderbirds were activated at Luke AFB, Arizona, and they flew the F-84G Thunderjet and the F-84F Thunderstreak. The F-84 platform was celebrated for its role in the Korean War, which had ended the same year the Thunderbirds were created. It's the watch I've been asking for: a reintroduction of the original L.U.C. 1860 from the mid-1990s. I wrote about that original 1860 just a few weeks ago (to be clear, I had no idea this was coming out). And Chopard absolutely nailed the new L.U.C. 1860. A serious review of all the watches on display could easily take a real enthusiast days, not hours. replica iwc uhren Of the 123 other lots at Sotheby's, I'll be watching (pun intended) lot 53, a Tank Allongée with "bec d'aigle", French for "eagle's beak," lugs. The catalog has this one dated to the 1940s, but I would guess it leans more toward 1960. Whatever the year of production, it is a real deal vintage Cartier, produced in collaboration with Edmond Jaeger in Paris, and a rare one at that.
